Vaillant Error Codes

F.22: This code indicates low water pressure in your system. You may need to check for leaks or top up the pressure.

F.XX (where XX is a number between 00 and 15): These codes typically point to NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistor faults. NTC thermistors are sensors that monitor the temperature of the water in your boiler. A fault with one of these could mean it’s malfunctioning or not properly connected.

F.60 or F.61: These codes indicate a problem with the gas valve control. This could be a faulty cable connection, a defective gas valve or an issue with the electronic control system.

F.21: This code means the pilot flame has failed to ignite. There could be an ignition system problem or a gas supply issue.

L Codes (Flashing Light):

  • L1: Flow temperature overheat or no water flow lockout. This could be due to blocked radiators, low water pressure, or a faulty pump.
  • L2: Ignition lockout. This means the boiler struggled to ignite. It could be caused by low gas pressure, a faulty gas valve, or a problem with the flue.
  • L5: Return thermistor fault. The thermistor that measures the return water temperature is malfunctioning.
  • L6: False flame lockout. The boiler detected a flame when there wasn’t one, which could be a safety feature malfunction.

F Codes (Flashing Letter):

  • F2, FN, LN: Flame loss or ignition lockout. Similar to L2, this indicates the boiler couldn’t ignite or maintain a flame.
  • F3: Fan fault. The fan that expels fumes isn’t working properly.
  • F4, L4: Flow thermistor fault. The thermistor that measures the flow water temperature is malfunctioning.
  • F5: Return thermistor fault. Same as L5.
  • F6: Outside sensor fault. The sensor that measures the outdoor temperature is malfunctioning.
  • F7: Low mains voltage. The electrical supply to the boiler is too low.

C Codes (Flashing Letter):

  • C2: BCC Chip fault. The BCC chip, which controls boiler functions, is malfunctioning.
